The
"writing" bug: When did you first get bitten by it? Was
writing something you've always wanted to do?
In
junior high school, I wrote a short story in my English class. I
realized writing is a talent I had when the teacher read it
aloud and praised it. I didn't realize it was my passion until
much later.
What's
your writing process? Do you jump in and just write, or do you
like to outline and do character sketches?
Usually,
an idea comes to me and then the story takes off from there.
Sometimes I may jot down names I want to use or scenarios, but for
the most part I simply write.
Your
latest work is WAIT FOR LOVE: A BLACK GIRL'S STORY. In 25 words or
less, sell your book to us.
This
book is the realization of how far women will go for
"LOVE" and the wrong road we travel to get it.
What
are some of the topics you tackle in WAIT FOR LOVE?
Weight
fluctuation and eating disorders due to the lack of
self-respect and the feeling of just needing something. The main
issue is of loving yourself regardless of if you have a man
to lay down with every night.
In
your creative process, what was the spark that had you creating
this work?
Many
women have the same issues as the main character. I want women to
stop judging what other women do in relationships and see that we
are all the same to some degree.
I
noticed that you've also published the work, IT'S A WOMAN'S WORLD,
a collection of sexy short stories. Do you plan to do more sensual
works in the future?
At
the present time no. I would, however, love to publish It's A
Woman's World in print form. I have submitted erotic stories
for publication in confessional magazines, so you can look
for stories of that nature from me there.
Who
inspires you as a writer?
Every
author of every book that I have ever read.
The actuality of seeing your work in print, having your
voice be heard and an audience that accepts you is very inspiring.
Picture
this, you're about to sit down to write...describe the setting
that creates the perfect mood conducive to great writing for you.
A
dark quiet room with nothing but the light from the computer
screen guiding my every move. A very simple setting but silence
makes my mind roam with creativity.
If
you were not a writer, what would be your dream career?
Well,
I do stand-up and in my opinion writing and comedy go hand in
hand. I think I'd be a veterinarian.
You're
stranded on a desert island...what three things MUST you have?
A
computer, family photos and a man. (hehehehe)
What
projects are you working on now? Any conferences or book signings
in the near future?
I'm
currently working on my novel titled, A Sheltered Life. I
don't have any signings lined up at this time, but I'm in contact
with a few bookstores, so I will have information on appearances
shortly. |
