Pitch your book in 50 words or less (I'll be counting!).

Sweets is a romance novel about the infidelity, love, secrets, and lies that keep a diverse circle of friends connected.

What are three words you would use to describe your novel, Sweets?

A great read!

What was the initial spark that came in mind for your novel?

My first initial spark was to write about a woman dealing with a troubled marriage and problems with her teenage daughter.  I made a lot of changes to bring more fiction and romance with all the characters.

What makes your novel different than other books like it?

With my novel, you can feel the characters come to life!  It feels like you are a part of the story.

How long did it take you to write Sweets?

I started writing Sweets in the early 90’s.  I put it off to start a catering business, D’s Kitchen.  After my mother passed away in 2004, I started back writing and finished Sweets in April 2005.

Did you outline the novel, or did you sit at the computer and let the words pump out of your mind?

I outlined my romance novel based on some of my own romantic experiences.  Of course, I added a little spice to it.

Did you try to go the traditional publishing route with Sweets? If so, what was that journey like?

In 1995, I sent 10 chapters of my novel to a publisher.  They sent it back to me saying that it had too much truth (about my own life) to the story.  So, I had to work on it.  Rejection was tough, but I tried it again in 2005.  I sent it to three publishers, and they all wanted to publish it!  I chose a traditional publishing company because I didn’t have to come up with any upfront money.

What has the response been to Sweets since its debut?

I’ve received some great reviews about my novel.  I just need to promote harder to put the word out about a great romance novel.

What is your writing inspiration?

My inspiration to write came from my mother, Christine Baldwin (RIP 8/31).  I am forever grateful to her for giving me that extra push to finish what I’d started.

What are you currently reading?

I just started reading Michael Baisden’s The Maintenance Man.

What are you currently writing?

My second book, Sweeter Than Sweets was published in August 2006.  I’m done with my third book, The Letter To Julius Waters.  Now, I’m working on my fourth book, I Thought….Momma Didn’t Raise No Fool.
